PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocurable element which includes a carrier layer, a photocurable material disposed on the carrier layer and a protective layer of this invention disposed on the photocurable material. SOLUTION: The photocurable element has first and second opposing major faces, and a printing element is produced by depositing a negative image forming ink onto the first major face of the photocurable element. (1) This ink is substantially opaque to actinic radiation, in at least one wavelength range effective to cure the photocurable material in the element and substantially has resistance to polymerization in exposure to actinic radiation in the wavelength region and (2) the first major face of the photocurable element includes the protective layer substantially impermeable with respect to the ink. |
