PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which provides image of high contrast. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a light source 2 emitting illumination light, liquid crystal panels 22R, 22G and 22B as optical modulation means modulating and emitting incident illumination light on the basis of inputted image information, an illumination optical system making the illumination light from the light source 2 incident on the liquid crystal panels 22 and a projection optical system projecting the illumination light emitted from the liquid crystal panel 22. A light-shielding plate 50 as a light-shielding means selectively shielding the light of a specified angle component, based on the optical characteristics of the liquid crystal panels 22 among the illumination light is provided. |
