PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical disk device, in which a magneto-optical recording medium is exactly testable. SOLUTION: By a controller 114, a prescribed signal is recorded on the magneto-optical recording medium 100 and this recorded signal is reproduced to test the recording medium 100. Then, the controller 114 discriminates whether each frame of the recording medium 100 is a defective frame or not, on the basis of the number of errors of the reproduced signals inputted from a BCH recorder 112. When the magneto-optical disk device 200 is forcibly stopped by some or other reason, the controller 114 restarts the test by returning back to the top of the band whereon the test is performed.
