Device has an illumination device that transmits polarized light towards a transparent container (5) being inspected. Two cameras (3a, 3b) are arranged to image the container or parts thereof. A polarizing beam splitter (7) is placed in the beam path between container and cameras to divide the beam so that it is detected by both cameras. The beam splitter can be in the form of a Wollaston prism.
