PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the step difference of a stairway which is a burden on the aged whose knees are hard to bend. SOLUTION: A part of the tread of the stairway is made high by about the half of the step difference. A user thereby has to clear only about the half of the original step difference by using the heightened tread, which makes it easy to use the stairway. The step difference reduced stairway can be formed on the spot by placing the laid tread. It is preferable that the user uses the step difference reduced stairway and the laid tread along with a strong handrail.
