PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spirofluorene compound suitable as an organic luminescent material which gives strong blue light emission, to provide a method for efficiently producing the compound, to provide an intermediate for synthesizing the compound, and to provide an organic electroluminescent element using the spirofluorene compound. SOLUTION: This spirofluorene compound is expressed by the general formula (1) [the benzo groups in the formula (1) may be each independently substituted and/or fused together].
