The crutch (20) is assembled of two telescopically arranged bars (23, 40) accommodating a hydraulically operated cylinder and piston unit controlled with a spring supported lever integrated in the handle (22). When the user moves into a seated position the lower bar (40) is pushed into the upper bar (23) by the weight of the user acting on a support area (21) propped against his/her arm pitch. The crutch (20) can be secured with a latch located at the handle (22). When the latch is released the user is supported by the extending crutch (20) when changing into an upright position.
