摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain an economical and efficient highly reliable large scale filing system by preparing the proper number of restoring secondary storage devices for the filing system and dynamically switching a secondary storage device constituting the filing system to a substitutive secondary storage in accordance with the I/O error rate of the secondary storage device concerned. CONSTITUTION:This highly reliable large scale filing system is provided with an account information sampling means 12 for sampling the account of the error rate of I/O requests to/from secondary storage devices 14-l to 14-k in each fixed time interval and storing the sampled result in an account information table 13. The table 13 is referred by a program started in each fixed time interval and whether there is a secondary storage device whose I/O error rate exceeds a previously determined I/O error rate threshold or not is checked. The contents of the secondary storage device whose I/O error rate exceeds the threshold are copied to the secondary storage device registered in the head of a substitutive secondary storage device registering part in a file system constitutional information table 4 to replace the device concerned. Consequently, the high reliability of the large scale filing system is economically attained without completely duplexing the secondary storage devices.
