Disclosed is a water-conducting household appliance, especially a dishwasher (1), comprising at least one substantially closed water circuit (6) in which rinsing liquid (7) is circulated according to a program control unit, the rinsing liquid being conveyed through a filter element (14) while circulating in order to filter out dirt. Another water circuit (15) is provided through which the rinsing liquid is circulated according to the program control unit when the filter element (14) is covered with dirt in order to cause the filter element (14) to be cleaned.
