PURPOSE:To obtain an olefin by carrying out intermolecular dehydrochlorination of methyl chloride using zeolite, containing exchangeable cations which are metallic cations selected from alkali metals and capable of exhibiting specific values of spacings determined by powder X-ray diffractometry as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A 2-5C unsaturated hydrocarbon (especially propylene or isobutylene) is produced by dehydrochlorinating reaction of methyl chloride. In the process, zeolite, containing exchangeable cations which are one or more metallic cations selected from alkali metals and capable of exhibiting values of spacings (d values) shown in the table is used as a catalyst. The aforementioned zeolite is obtained by preparing, e.g. an aqueous solution of a chloride, an acetate, etc., of the alkali metallic cations to be introduced at 0.01-5mol/l concentration, adding the zeolite thereto and carrying out ion exchange treatment at 20-100 deg.C for 0.5-24hr. In use, the catalyst is burned at 400-700 deg.C. |
