PURPOSE:To allow the execution of displaying in the state of specified coloration by sticking phase plates to a substrate applied with the stress of warpage at the time of sticking the phase plates to the substrate of a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer which exhibits double refractiveness. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal layer 1 develops R (red) when the phase plates and polarizers 6, 7 are stuck straight to the substrate 2 clamping the liquid crystal layer 1. The liquid crystal layer, however, develops G (green) if the phase plates 4, 5 and the polarizers 6, 7 are stuck to the substrate 2 after the stress of such warpage as to heighten the center of the substrate by 0.5 to 1.0mm from the end line is applied to the surface of the substrate. The red is a stimulating color and gives the very impression of the coloration to an observer regardless of the lightness, saturation and hue, but the pale green or blue is relatively naturally felt as the ground color of the display by the observer and is, therefore, more preferable. The displaying with the high display grade is executed in this way. |
