An apparatus and a method for compensating the chromatic aberration of an image are provided to compensate normal chromatic aberration generated by a lens by using different weights according to a calculated chromatic aberration level, thereby compensating widely distributed chromatic aberration during compensation. An apparatus(100) for compensating the chromatic aberration of an image comprises a color space converter(110), an edge detector(120), a level calculator(130), and a compensation unit(140). The edge detector detects the edge of an input image. The level calculator calculates the chromatic aberration level of the detected edge. The compensation unit compensates the edge by using different weights according to the calculated chromatic aberration level.
