A buckle assembly (10, 10') is disclosed for use in fastening opposite ends of a strap (S), belt, suspender and the like, which buckle assembly comprises a plug member (11), a socket member (12) engageable therewith and a tension control means (21) adapted to reciprocate the plug member (11) back and forth through the socket member (12) for a predetermined distance in response to tensile forces applied to the strap (S).
