PURPOSE:To form a uniform catalyst layer by using a pore closing-type elastic material for absorbing the unevenness of a water-absorptive material which induces the unevenness of the obtained layer at the time of press-molding a sheet material for the catalyst layer formation while dehydration being carried out. CONSTITUTION:A sheet material 1 consisting of a carbon paper 2, a powder layer 3 containing a catalyst and adjacently formed on the carbon paper 2, and a filter 4 adjacently formed on the powder layer 3 is put between an upper die 5 for pressing and a lower die 6 for pressing and press-molding is carried out. A filter paper 7 for water absorption, which is a water-absorptive material, is put on the upper side of the material 1, and the filter paper 7 for water absorption and a pore closing-type elastic material 8 of sponge rubber, etc., are put in the lower side of the material 1 successively from the filter 4. When both dies 5, 6 for pressing are pressured under this condition, water in the sheet material 1 for the catalyst layer formation bleeds and the carbon paper 2, the powder layer 3, and the filter 4 of the material 1 are firmly joined each other and a catalyst layer with a prescribed strength is thus formed. |
