PURPOSE:To prevent sublimation or transformation by depositing a transparent optical plane plate by optical contact on the end face of the element including the end face of a waveguide part the shutting off the end face of the waveguide part and the ambient atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A DMNP 11' is maintained in a molten state in a furnace, etc., and one end of a glass fiber 12' is immersed therein. The DMNP 11' is then infiltered into the hollow part by capillarity. The glass fiber 12' is there after rapidly cooled and further this glass fiber 12' is gradually drawn from the inside of the furnace kept at the temp. higher than the m. p. of the DMNP 11' to the outside of the furnace kept at the temp. lower than the m. p., by which the DMNP 11' in the molten state is crystallized to a single crystal from the part drawn out of the furnace. Both end faces of the glass fiber 12' are thereafter polished to the surface accuracy to the extent of allowing the optical contact. The optical plane plates 13a, 13b made of the SF 10 glass formed to the disk shape of nearly the same diameter as the diameter of the glass fiber 12' are respectively brought into contact with each other in such a manner that foreign matter, such as dust, moisture and air, does not enter therebetween. |
