Means for aligning a railway track in the vertical or horizontal plane comprises a first triangular frame supported on a first vehicle, a second similar frame supported on a second vehicle, cross members connecting the frames, a pair of track contacting means associated with each frame and sensing means associated with the rear contacting means of the first frame for indicating when the track deviates from the straight line or curve defined by the geometry of the frames and cross members. In the arrangement shown for aligning the track in the vertical plane the second frame 1 forms an integral part of its support vehicle and is coupled by cross members 11, 12 to the first frame 8. This frame is supported in slotted members 26, 27, which allow vertical movement of the frame, on the first vehicle 23 and its leading end is supported at C1 by one end of a screw member 9. Parts A and B of the second frame are normally on corrected track and these points with point C define a straight line or regular curve which is a function of the dimensions of the frames and cross members. The deviation of point X from this curve is indicated by the contact arrangement 18, 20, 21 which is actuated by the shaft 17. The shaft is vertically slidable with respect to the frame 8 and the contact arrangement can control a track lifting and packing machine. Two sets of frames are provided, one over each rail of the track. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement for alignment in the horizontal plane in which the frames are horizontal and the contact members bear against the side of the rails and Fig. 14 shows an arrangement in which the contact arrangement is replaced by a measuring device which is disposed where cross member 11 meets the frame 1 and indicates the amount of deviation. |
