A sintered electrode is made from a powder mixture of Ni and an oxygenated Ag compound e.g. the oxide, the mixture being first sintered in a neutral atmosphere such as argon and then sintered in a second stage in a reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen. The Ni powder is formed from the formate, carbonyl or carbonate and the powdered mixture is moistened with benzene, dried in air or vacuum, pressed at 100-4000 Kgms/cm2 and sintered at 250 DEG -500 DEG C. in both stages. The mixture contains 5-85% by weight of the oxygenated Ag compound and 95-15% of Ni. The electrode may be used as a gas diffusion electrode in an electro chemical generator or in an electrolytic cell. |
