1, 042, 588. Mixing apparatus; dye-runner mills. NATIONAL ENGINEERING CO OF CANADA. Jan. 14, 1964 [Oct. 31, 1963], No. 1588/64. Headings B1C and B2A. A mixer has a rotatable cross-head assembly 18 including a scraper support arm 30 with a scraper support 48 pivoted thereon; the scraper 42 is normally maintained in an operative position in which it lies close to the side and bottom of the mixing chamber 12 by a frangible stop. As described and shown, the mixer is a muller for foundry sand and the frangible stop is a shear pin 66; the axis 58 of the pivot pin 56 is inclined to that of the support arm 30 in such relation to its direction of rotation 22 that the scraper swings inwardly (and upwardly) on meeting an obstruction sufficiently large to shear the pin 66. The scraper support 48 is vertically adjustable in the bracket 50, and the mounting arm 54a radially adjustable on the arm 30, to control the bottom and side clearance of the scraper 42. The shear pin 66 has a circumferential groove the depth of which determines the force required to fracture it. |
