The invention comprises compounds of the formula and acid addition salts thereof, wherein X is an amino or substituted amino group or a 1,1-di- (C 1-5 alkyl)hydrazine radical, R<SP>3</SP> is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C 1-5 alkyl radical, R<SP>111</SP> is a C 1-5 alkyl, mononuclear-aryl-substituted-C 1-5 alkyl radical or a mononuclear aryloxy radical and R is hydrogen or a C 1-5 alkyl radical, e.g. 4 - (2 - methylenebutyryl) - phenylacetic amide and N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>-dimethyl-hydrazide. The compounds are prepared from the corresponding free acids by known methods for the preparation of amides and hydrazides. Pharmaceutical preparations having diuretic, natriuretic and chloruretic properties comprise the above amides and hydrazides together with an inert diluent, carrier or coating, suitably in the form of a pill, tablet, capsule, elixir or injectable solution. |
