995,417. Cable and wire couplings. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. June 20, 1961 [June 23, 1960], No. 22271/61. Heading H2E. A contact element 16 (Fig. 7) for an electrical connector comprises at least one contact arm consisting of a pair of opposing jaw members 23, 24 forming an opening 25 therebetween, being interconnected by a resilient member 26. A cable tapping device consisting of upper and lower members 15, 14 (Fig. 1), fitting round a flat cable has contact elements 16 with their jaws 23, 24 piercing the cable so that the cable conductors enter passages 25 to make contact; the upper arms of elements 16 being held in slots 17 in the upper member and the points of jaws 23, 24 entering slots 18 in the lower member. In a modification enabling interconnection of the conductors of two cables, double-acting contact members 32 (Fig. 10), formed in opposing pairs on each leg of a U- shaped contact member (Fig. 12, not shown), each enter the insulation of an associated flat cable such as 10<SP>1</SP> and 10<SP>11</SP> (Figs. 9 and 11), when base and cover members 30, 33 are snapped together about an insulating separator 31 (Fig. 10) carrying the contact members. |
