发明名称 Method and Apparatus for Perforating or Cutting a Rapidly Moving Strip
摘要
1,150,391. Dividing. E. W. BLISS CO. 1 March, 1967 [17 March, 1966], No. 9617/67. Heading B3W. [Also in Division B4] A method of removing a sample coupon from, or cutting a moving strip comprises providing a punch including a cutting edge on one side and a pressure surface on the other side and having a total height of " x," providing a pair of rolls one on each side of the strip path and rotatable on axes perpendicular to the strip path, the spacing between the rolls being equal to or less than " x," depositing the punch on the moving strip with the cutting edge facing the strip, passing the punch with the strip between the rolls, whereby the cutting edge is forced through the strip and removing the punch from the moving strip after it passes through the rolls. The punch 40 has a circular cutting edge formed by an external bevel so that the coupon is retained inside the punch, which is closed at one end and has a knock-out hole 48 in that end for dislodging the coupon. The punch is secured in a carrier 50 of flexible magnetic material, if ferrous strip is to be cut, or the carrier is electrostatically charged before it is deposited on the strip, so that it adheres and is rapidly accelerated to the strip speed. The punch assembly P is deposited on the strip from a magazine D and is carried by the strip between pressure rolls 62, 70, the peripheral speed of which is equal to the strip speed. The upper roll 62 has a hardened surface and the lower roll 70 has an outer soft-metal covering 72. The spacing between the rolls is slightly less than the height of the punch so that it is forced through the strip. On each side of the roll pass is a guide roller (90, 92), Fig. 3 (not shown), which ensures that the strip does not run on the lower roller when it is passing freely between the rolls. After passing through the rolls the punch assembly is projected from the strip by centrifugal force as the strip passes round a guide roller 10 or on to a reel E. Alternatively, the punch assembly is lifted by an air-blast through the punched hole, caught by a blade positioned just above the strip and directed to a collecting bin. The strip may be divided into lengths by substituting a blade 230 with a cutting edge 232, Fig. 14, for the punch. The magazine D, Fig. 8, comprises a series of trays 122 carried by endless chains on sprockets 114, 116 which are intermittently rotated by an indexing motor 140. The punch assembly P is discharged from a tray on to support fingers 152, 154 by a double-acting solenoid-operated push-rod. The fingers 152, 154 are secured to shafts 156 which are turned by a rotary solenoid 164 to deposit the assembly on the strip.
