<p>A magnetic recording member comprises a substrate (which may be of polyethylene terephthalate) with a coating of magnetic particles, such as g Fe2O3, in a binder comprising 25 to 75% by weight of a phenoxy resin of the formula <FORM:1040040/C3/1> where N is about 100, and 75 to 25% of a polyurethane resin made by reacting a diisocyanate (preferably p-p1-diphenylmethane diisocyanate), a dibasic acid (adipic acid) and a polygol (butanediol-1,4). Preferably, there are equal parts of the two resins. To make the binder thermosetting melamine formaldehyde or ureaformaldehyde resin is added in the proportion of 10 to 30% by weight of the phenoxyresin content. Additives used in examples include lecithin, silicone oil and phenylmercuric oleate.</p> |
