[Also in Divisions E2 and H2] A fastener socket for receiving a stud 3 has means for mounting the socket in a panel aperture, the socket being folded up from sheet metal and comprising a short entrance portion defining an opening of generally square shape, the entrance portion having a longitudinal open seam 9 at the corner, the four sides of the entrance portion at one end being formed with respective elongated extensions 12 defining cantilever springs supported by the entrance portion, free end portions of the extensions being turned in to define a stud engaging portion presenting a generally square opening smaller than that of the opening defined by the entrance portion. In the construction shown, the means for mounting the socket in the panel aperture comprises flanges 10 and detents 14 cut out of each extension 12. The stud shown is of octagonal cross-section, alternate sides being provided with slots 7 of triangular section, each slot having a side remote from the head extending perpendicular to the stud length and a side adjacent the head inclined inwardly in a direction away from a head 6 of the stud; the other sides of the stud are flat. The stud is engageable with the socket by pushing it into the socket through the entrance portion so that the free end portions 13 of the extension engage in slots 7. It is released from the socket by rotating it through 45 degrees which brings the flat sides into engagement with the portion 13 after which it can be withdrawn axially. The stud can alternatively be provided with a screwthread in which case the free end portions of the extensions are each provided with an arcuate concave profile 18 for engaging the screw threads; the extensions are also inclined at an angle corresponding to the angle of the screw threads and the end portions are suitably staggered. |
