Object: to provide a new type of hair generation promoting agent which has a remarkable hair generation promoting effect and low skin irritation. Constitution: A hair generation promoting agent comprising as an effective ingredient an alkanamidoammonium compound represented by the formula: (wherein R' is an alkyl group having 7 to 25 carbon atoms; R2, R3 and R4, which may be the same or different one another, are each an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; m is an integer of 2 to 4; and X is an atom or atomic group acting as an anion.
