1275259 Spin dryers HOOVER Ltd 14 Aug 1969 [15 Aug 1968] 39028/68 Heading F4G [Also in Division D1] A spin-rinsing machine has a spin can 10 rotatable in a stationary container 11 by drive means 12, means for automatically interrupting the drive during rinsing so that the spin can runs intermittently, and means 40 for supplying rinsing water to the spin can at least while the can is being driven. The interruptions of the spin can drive during rinsing prevents the radial acceleration of clothes in the spin can from exceeding 300 g. and are effected by a pressure switch 30 which is sensitive to the water level in the container 11. The motor may be switched on for between 10 and 30 seconds and off for from one to two minutes. The motor may be operated continuously to provide a spin-drying speed. In use water is supplied through a spout 40 from a pipe 42 connected to a tap and, with a control knob 50 in a first position the spin can drive motor is started and stopped by the switch 30 when the water level reaches and falls to predetermined levels. Water is withdrawn from the container 11 by a pump 16 which preferably is driven, as through a belt 17, only when the spin can is rotated. In a second switch position the spin can is driven continuously for spin-drying. In both switch positions the lid 25 of the container 11 must be closed over the spout 40 to operate the motor 12. The washing machine shown includes a wash tub 35 with a heater 43 controlled by a stepped snapaction thermostat switch 53 (Fig. 2, not shown), a pipe 22 to the pump 16 and a horizontal-axis impeller driven by a pulley 39 from a motor 36, the motor starting when the adjustable thermostat switches off the heater. The spout 40 may be lifted and turned round to direct water into the wash container 35. |
