The tracks 1 of a garage lift are raised by a hoist mechanism comprising winch drums 7 coupled to rollers 2 on the tracks, the rollers being driven by driven wheels of a vehicle supported on the tracks. Hoist cables or chains are secured to overhead anchorages and to the drums 7 and the tracks 1 are guided by rollers 10, 11 engaging guides 12, 13. When the tracks 1 are in the lowermost position, the driven vehicle wheels are supported on the rollers 2 and on rollers 3. When the tracks are raised, the rollers 3 are lowered and the vehicle wheels engage further rollers 4 which are inclined, as shown, to resist transverse movement of the vehicle. The rollers 2 are braked automatically, Figs. 4A, 4B (not shown), as the tracks reach their lowermost position. The lift may be employed for use in vehicle maintenance or for garaging vehicles, Fig. 5 (not shown). |
