A temperature responsive control device comprises a liquid filled system (not shown) including a probe disposed in the area wherein temperature is to be monitored, and connected to a bellows within a box 4, the bellows acting on one end of a lever 5 pivoted at 6, the other end of the lever engaging with a ring stop 7 on a slide 8, the arrangement being such that an attainment of a predetermined temperature, the lever 5 is pivoted free of the stop 7 allowing the slide 8 to move under the action of a spring 9. The device is described as being used for stopping an internal combustion engine when the exhaust temperature thereof rises above a predetermined limit, and the probe is therefore situated in the exhaust of the engine. A spring (not shown) maintains the lever 5 in engagement with the movable end of the bellows and the slide 8 when released acts on a pivoted lever 11 to close a butterfly valve 16 in the engine inlet. A resetting plunger may be provided to hold the lever 5 free of the stop 7 whilst the device is reset after actuation. |
