In an underground hydrant the riser 9 is connected through an elbow piece 6 and a gate valve 2 to the water main 4. An automatic drain valve consisting of a resilient membrane 13 which closes drain hole 14 when subjected to water pressure, is arranged to open the drain hole when the pressure is released. The drain valve may be mechanically operated. The gate valve and the elbow piece may be a single casting. |
