In a method of cleaning floor coverings grains 4 of, for example, porous rubber or synthetic plastics material, impregnated with a cleaning liquid and fed from a hopper 3, are applied by a motor driven brush roller 2 to the carpet, the used grains being withdrawn from the floor covering by a suction fan 20 to be returned to the hopper 3, or collected in a pervious bag (not shown) and cleaned before being returned to the hopper 3. Apparatus for cleaning the grains 4 is described (Fig. 4, not shown). In a further apparatus (Fig. 5, not shown) the impregnated grains are fed from a single hopper (3a) to two brush rollers (2a, 2b). |
