1300070 Copper and nickel complexes of bisformazan dyes CIBA GEIGY AG 9 Dec 1969 [10 Dec 1968] 60110/69 Heading C4P The invention comprises bisformazan dyes of Forumula I where A 1 , A 2 , B 1 and B 2 are o-phenylene or o-naphthylene, R 1 and R 2 are organic radicals, Me 1 and Me 2 are nickel or copper, X 1 and X 2 are copper- or nickel-binding substituents bonded to A 1 or A 2 and B 1 or B 2 ortho to the position at which the formazan nitrogen atom is bonded, Y is a group obtained by removing 2 OH groups from a dibasic carboxylic acid or from carbonic acid, or a radical obtained from an at least bifunctional heterocyclic compound, Z is a salt-forming, water-solubilizing group which dissociates in water to give an acid reaction and n is 2 to 6, where aromatic groups present may contain further substituents and where -NH-Y-HN- may be bound directly or via a bridging group to a ring carbon atom of one of A 1 , B 1 or R 1 and one of A 1 , B 2 or R 2 . The dyes of Formula I may be prepared by reacting one or two dyestuffs of Formula II where A, B, R and Me may have any of the meanings defined for A 1 and A 2 , B 1 and B 2 , R 1 and R 2 and Me 1 and Me 2 respectively, and where the -NH 2 group may be bound directly or via a bridging group to a ring carbon atom of one of A, B and R with a dicarboxylic acid, carbonic acid or an at least bifunctional heterocyclic compound, either simultaneously or in stages, and if the product contains reactive substitutents, reacting this product with ammonia, a primary or secondary amine or a hydroxy or mercapto group-containing compound. The dyestuffs of Formula II may be prepared by known diazotisation and coupling methods for the production of nitro and acyl formazan dyes, followed by saponification of the acyl groups or reduction of the nitro groups to amino groups. |
