1,239,120. Halogen lamp. TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 24 Dec., 1969 [27 Dec., 1968], No. 62921/69. Heading H1F. A halogen lamp comprises a filament and a bulb containing the filament and nitrogen and/or an inert gas and a second gas containing chlorine and fluorine. The chlorine is present in the bulb at (0À05 to 1) Î 10<SP>-6</SP> gm. atoms/c.c. whilst the fluorine is present at (0À05 to 1À5) x 10<SP>-6</SP> gm. atoms/c.c. The second gas may be dichlorodifluoromethane (CF 2 Cl 2 ), 1,2-dichloro-1,1,2,2- tetrafluoroethane (C 2 Cl 2 F 4 ), chlorodifluoromethane (CClF 2 H), trichlorofluoromethane (CFCl 3 ), chlorotrifluoromethane (CClF 3 ), 1,1,2- trichloro - 1,2,2 - trffluoromethane (C 2 Cl 3 F 3 ) or 1-chloro-1-difluoroethane (C 2 H 3 F 2 Cl). Alternatively elemental chlorine, fluorine and carbon may be introduced into the bulb and caused to react therein. The fluorine and chlorine may be introduced by using SiF 4 or SiCl 4 . If chlorodifluoromethane is used then an additional fluorine-containing gas must be used to bring the hydrogen: fluorine ratio to the desired level otherwise excessive blackening of the bulb results. The inert gas may be Ar or Kr. |
