A valve includes at least one generally rectangular cross-sectioned slide 23 having a main port 33 which is permanently open to an inlet 19 and passage 34 so that the slide is capable of directing fluid to at least one port 50 or 51 to control, e.g., a piston 52, and at least two unloader ports 54 and 55 which in the neutral position connect the inlet 19 with an outlet 24, and is characterized by a first recess 73 formed in the face of the casing adjacent the slide 23, and a second recess 74 formed in the opposite face of the casing, and recesses 58 and 59 formed in the slide so that fluid can pass through the valve, in the neutral position, by at least two routes, i.e. the port 55, recess 73 and recess 59, and the recess 58, recess 74, and port 54. The recesses 58, 59 are also connected by a port 61 to form a third route. The ports 54 and 55 are located in a plane below that of the port 33, see Fig. 4. In the embodiment described, two slides 21 and 23 are located in frames 15 and 16 bolted between casing parts 12, 13 and 14.
