PURPOSE:To obtain an image forming apparatus which allows an operator to select either total copy or edge erasure copy mode according to copies and which is excellent in its general purpose characteristic by indicating whether or not action to erase the peripheral edge portion of an electrostatic latent image formed on a photoconductor is performed. CONSTITUTION:If the total copy mode setting switch of a control panel is not on, an edge erasure copy mode is set and the extent of erasure for erasing the peripheral edge portion of a copy image is set in a memory correspondingly to the size of a copy G and magnification, etc. With copying action 3, an erasing array 150 is driven by an array driving portion and electric charge on the surface of a charged photoconductor drum 10 is eliminated according to data from the memory. Because no further electrostatic latent image is formed on this discharged portion even at exposure, unnecessary black images do not appear on the peripheral edge portion of the copy image to be formed but beautiful copy images can always be obtained as 'hard copy'. |
