(U) is where (OR<SP>1</SP>) n is a polyalkylene moiety derived from one or more C 1-18 alkylene ether groups and containing 4-460 alkylene ether groups; R<SP>2</SP> is H or C# 18 alkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl; R<SP>3</SP> is C# 18 and is a chain comprising one or more alkylene groups, and/or arylene or cyoloalkylene groups which may be substituted by one or more alkyl or alkoxy groups, or an alkylene chain interrupted by one or more oxygen atoms; R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are independently C# 12 alkylene, pheneylene, or alkylene interrupted by phenylene, groups; R<SP>6</SP> is H or C 1-12 alkyl ; and X is the residue of amino- or hydroxy-sulphonic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof, or is a sodium sulphonate radical. (P) is a polyamide, polyester, or polyesterether; it may be derived from an #-lactam, an #-aminocarboxylic acid, or a diamine/dicarboxylic acid salt; or it may be polyethylene, terephthalate, poly(ethylene torephthalate/ethylene isophthalate) or polyethylene oxybenzoate. The composition has lasting antistatic and hydrophilic properties; it may form one component of a conjugate filament, the other component comprising a thermoplastic linear polymer. The components may be side-by-side or in eccentric sheath-core relationship. In Examples the composition is melt-spun and cold-drawn 3À5-3À59 x or hot-drawn to 4À02-4À2 x (e.g. using a pin or plate) and then heat-set. |
