<p>1299272 Ignition systems L D TORNIL 26 Feb 1970 [27 Feb 1969] 9460/70 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal-combustion engine has two output points between which the primary 32 of an ignition coil 35 is connected and the system comprises a capacitor 30 connected in series with the controlled current path of a controlled rectifier device 28 between the two output points, changing means 15 having an input for connection through an ignition switch 13 to an electrical power supply 10 and having an output effective for changing the capacitor 30 from such electrical power supply and pulsing means connected between the input and a control electrode of the controlled rectifier device for operation in dependence upon a control device 58 associated with the engine to trigger the controlled rectifier device so as to initiate the production of the respective ignition discharges required to maintain the engine in operation. Capacitive smoothing means 22 is connected in parallel with the controlled current path and resistive means 19 is provided for discharging the capacitor when the ignition switch is opened. A diode 25 has its anode and cathode connected respectively with the cathode and anode of the controlled rectifier device. The charging means 15 comprises a voltage converter. The controlled rectifier device 28 becomes conductive every time that the contacts 59, 60 of the contact breaker 58 are opened. The system may be readily installed in a motor car having a conventional ignition system.</p> |
