1,099,574. Adaptive stores. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. April 1, 1966, No. 14523/66. Addition to 1,069,159. Heading G4R. An adaptive element as in the parent Specification (a form of counter), has its contents repeatedly modified in accordance with a comparison of its current contents against a quantity which varies randomly subject to an adjustable maximum. On reception of a write signal on a first line, the value in the adaptive element referred to (which constitutes a first store) is incremented provided the present value is less than or equal to that in a second store. Similarly, on reception of a write signal on a second line, the value is decremented provided the present value is greater than that in the second store. The value in the second store is varied in a random manner subject to a manually-set maximum. The comparators also provide the system output. Use in speech and pattern recognition is mentioned. As a modification, the comparators may respond to " less than " and " greater than or equal " respectively. |
