Impurities are removed after fibre formation by feeding the fibres through a vessel containing a liquid which is excited with compressional vibrations having an intensity which is above the cavitation level of the liquid. Preferably the fibres are formed into a cable, e.g. a flat band, before being fed to the vessel which may contain water in the case of the removal of monomer from polyamide. The water prefarably becomes countercurrent to the direction of movement of the fibres. The fibres are stretched before, after, or while they are being led through the acoustic field. |
