[Also in Divisions D1 and G2] Strip handling apparatus, e.g. for film processing, has at least one rotatable roller 1u arranged below the level of liquid in a tank and over which strip material 4a, 4b is to be passed, and means for directing into the wedge-shaped space formed between the surface of the roller and the incoming web of material, jets S of liquid which are distributed along the roller. A tubular distributer 3a extends parallel to the roller and has a plurality of apertures 2 to form the jets and baffles 5 to provide a narrow passageway between the baffle and the roller into which the jets are directed. The roller is rotated by impingement of the jets, the pressure of which causes the peripheral speed of the roller to exceed the speed of the strip material. Alternatively, the roller is motor driven in the same or opposite direction to the strip material. A plurality of rollers may be provided each having associated jets of liquid. |
