1357321 Feeding glass batch PILKINGTON BROS Ltd and W C HYND 19 April 1971 [25 Feb 1970] 9141/70 Heading C1M [Also in Division F4] Cullet from a feed unit 1A is conveyed by an endless belt 1 to a fixed hopper 2 delivering it to a glass melting furnace 17 by apparatus comprising a combined hopper 3 and shoot 4 pivotally mounted on a shaft 6 carried in bearings 7 and oscillated by a sprocket chain 13 over a feed shoot 16. One sprocket wheel 14 is driven by a motor 15 and a pin 12 projecting from the chain 13 engages a drive block 11 in a slot 9 cut in an upwardly extended arm 8 of a cradle 7a supporting the shoot 4 and pivoted to shaft 6. The arm 8 carries an upper counterweight 10 and the shoot 4 swings at a substantially constant linear rate. A different arrangement of sprocket wheels 14 (Fig. 3) gives the chain 13 an upward and downward central component of movement slowing the shoot 4 up in the centre and producing thereat a heavier layer of cullet.
