[Also in Division E2] A seat back adjusting arrangement includes a mechanical locking device in which one of the locking members is connected to a seat back frame structure which is hingedly attached to a seat base structure to which the other locking member is attached. The mechanical locking device comprises two coaxially arranged locking structures, 1 and 2, having inter-engageable male and female parts, 7 and 10 respectively, of conical configuration with each inter-engagable part comprising two sets of generally axially extending teeth, 8 and 9, the angle of inclination of which to the axis of the locking structure in any axial plane being greater than the jamming angle but less than the angle at which the locking structures separate under purely circumferential loading, the locking structures being displaceable towards and away from one another to effect locking thereof or disengagement from one another under the control of actuating means. The actuating means includes a lever actuator 31<SP>11</SP> and cam means, in which the lever actuator is biased to a normal position by a torsion spring 6 and a coiled biasing spring 5 is also provided. |
