1,201,778. Pressure sensitive adhesive coating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 15 Nov., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No. 52031/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Aluminium strips are coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive which is a polyorganosiloxane obtained by subjecting to intercondensation in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent at 80-150‹C a mixture of: (I) 100 parts by wt. of a silanol chain-stopped polydiorganosiloxane having a viscosity of at least 10 million centistokes at 25‹C, (II) 15-200 parts by wt. of a benzene soluble resinous polymer of 0.5 to 1.0 R<SP>3</SP>SiO 1/2 units to one SiO 2 unit, and (III) 2-10 parts of a finely divided silica having a surface area >100 m<SP>2</SP> per g. The organic radicals of I are monovalent hydrocarbon radicals which may contain substituents inert to the reaction. I may be a dimethylsiloxane or may also contain phenyl vinyl siloxane units. R may also be methyl. III may be a fume silica. The adhesives after application to aluminium strips may be cured with benzoyl peroxide by heating, e.g. to 175‹C. |
