<p>cation radicals (I) are prepd. by mixing a soln. of a 1,1'-disubstd.- 1,1'-dihydro-4,4'-bipyridyl with a 1,1'-disubstd.-4,4'-bipyridylium salt. Oxidn. of (I), pref. with Cl2, O2, air, SO2, CO2, metal salt or organic oxidant, then gives the corresp. 1,1'-disubstd.-4,4'-bipyridylium salt, which is a herbicide, and part of which can be recycled to the first step.</p> |
