<p>Quartz sand or SiO2 and alkali hydroxide, esp. NaOH or KOH, are mixed in Me2O:SiO2 molar ratio 0.5 in mixer at 200-400, pref. 220-270 degrees C and dry product is removed from mixer. Process has advantages of taking place at atm. pressure and requiring only short reaction time. Products have wide range of industrial uses, e.g. in detergents and abrasives.</p> |
