In one form both parts of the channel are inclined and in another form the nozzle receiving portions are inclined relative to the discharge portions. A central vertical channel or pillar may be provided. In operation coating fluid and fluidising gas are fed to each channel and the particles to be coated are rotated around the central axis of the bed as well as being held in the raised position. The bed is formed of graphite and may be constructed in one or more pieces.
