A travelling continuous web of textile 1 is treated with a gaseous liquid or vaporous agent in apparatus comprising a support ring formed of one or more parts 2, 3 providing a cylindrical outer surface and having a length at least equal to that of the web and which has at least one longitudinal gap 99 of similar length, and through which the web may pass means being provided for winding the web on the ring to form one or more layers thereon for deflecting the web through the gap and for discharging the web (e.g. the rollers 4', 10 and 5), and also for supplying the treating agent from the interior of the ring to at least part of its outer surface whereby the web is contacted therewith. The ring may comprise hollow sections, as shown, perforated on their outer surface, or may comprise a cylindrical shell having recesses on its surface connected with a treatment agent supply. One or more driven carrier belts 12, 13 may be disposed around the support ring to assist in moving the webs; such belts are advantageously perforated. The sections of the ring may be held apart on adjustable struts which incorporate force measuring means, whereby the tension in the web may be controlled. The web may travel from outside to inside the ring or vice versa. The roller which deflects the web into the gap may be perforated and be connected to a vacuum. The roller 5 is arranged to skew the web so that it emerges from the ring along the axial direction. |
