<p>Reducing organic cpds. with alkali amalgam using water or electrolyte and emulsified water-immiscible solvent takes place continuously in contact with an amalgam cell in 2-5, esp. 3 hrs. in consecutively connected eductors. Optimum emulsion mixing ratios are set up by connecting each reductor with a phase-separator through an enclosed closed cycle. The two liquid phases are dissociated in the phase-separator in a way such as to remove desired amounts of the two liquids and supplying them, after emulsifying, to the eductors passed through by amalgam. Pref. with several amalgam cells for each reducing step, only one phase-separator is provided and linked with several eductors of the same reduction step in each gp.</p> |
