1,187,146. Extruding metal closures; making writing implements. SEIDEL K.G. GEB. 3 April, 1967 [2 April, 1966], No. 15111/67. Headings B3A and B3P. [Also in Divisions B6 and B8] A metal closure 2a, Fig. 4, with internal longitudinally extending ridges 2b is formed by backward extrusion of a disc 2 within a die 1. The discs are fed to the die on a conveyer. Extrusion is performed by an hydraulically or crank actuated punch 3, Fig. 1, guided by members 4 and having two or more longitudinal grooves 3a which form the ridges. The latter are subsequently cut to form an interrupted screw thread 2c, Fig. 4, or they may be turned inwardly at (2e), Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) adjacent the open end of the closure, to act as a screw thread. The closure may be used for bottles, containers or writing implements and may be made of brass, copper, iron or particularly aluminium. |
