Hydrated carboxymethyloxy succinate (I) is made by forming an aq. soln. of trisodium carboxymethyloxy succinate (II) and isolating the (I) as the tetra- or pentahydrate or mixts. of these. Parent patent describes the prodn. of (II) in soln., followed by drying to give the anhydrous salt. Pref. the (II) is dissolved in hot 80 vol. % alcohol/water and cooled to crystallise the pentahydrate out. The hydrated salt has better bulk keeping qualities than the anhydrous salt.
|
