1283368α-Phenylalkyl halides and cyanides CIBA-GEIGY AG 25 Sept 1969 [11 Oct 1968] 46544/71 Divided out of 1283367 .Heading C2C Novelα-phenylalkyl halides and cyanides of the formula wherein X is halogen or CN are prepared by halogenating the corresponding hydroxy compound and, if desired, reacting the thus obtained 1 - halo 1 - [p - (1 - cyclohexenyl) phenyl] ethane with sodium cyanide. 1 - Hydroxy - 1 - [p - (1 - cyclohexenyl) phenyl] ethane is obtained by reducing p-(1-cyclohexenyl)- acetophenone resulting from the hydrolysis and dehydration of 2-[p-(1-hydroxycyclohexyl)]-phenyl 2-methyt-1,3-dioxolane which is made by reacting cyclohexanone with the Grignard reagent formed by reacting magnesium with2-(p-bromophenyl). 2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran. |
