A casing with two holes for the passage of a beam of light is filled with a liquid. One of the holes is covered by a transparent diaphragm. Piezoelectric plates are arranged inside at right angles to the line of light. The application of a variable voltage to the plates applies an addition fluid pressure to the diaphragm so that its radius of curvature is changed as a function of the voltage.
